Peter Meldrim

Peter Wiltberger Meldrim was a politician, a judge and an army officer from Georgia, USA.

He was born in Savannah, Georgia on December 4, 1848. He had Irish heritage and was President of the local Hibernian Society from 1887 to 1912. He attended University of Georgia, Class of 1868, where he was a Charter Member of the Eta Chapter of the Chi Phi Fraternity. He also was the owner and resident of the historic Green-Meldrim House for decades, starting in 1892.[1]

Meldrim was a member of the Georgia Hussars and eventually reached the rank of Brigadier General.

Meldrim was elected Alderman in 1891. He ran for Mayor of Savannah in 1897 and defeated incumbent Herman Myers. Two years later though, he declined to run for re-election and Myers became mayor again.[2] Meldrim was an attorney and served as President of the Georgia State Bar in 1904[3] and President of the American Bar Association in 1915. From 1917 to 1933, he was a Superior Court Judge with the Savannah-based Eastern Judicial Circuit of the 1st District.[4]

Meldrim died in 1933.
